Announcements and discussions about upcoming events and programs, survey about the June Workshop, sign up for March meeting when Paul will show us how to build a Japanese tool box, Sunday Seminars at Lee Valley to study bonsai.
A common and inexpensive offering at local greenhouses are eugenia plants with long, straight trunks, often thick with good taper, sporting three green pompoms with bare trunk in between. Stu is going to show us how to get three trees out one using air layering techniques and tell us all about this species of plant and its suitability to train as bonsai.
Ryan Neil of Bonsai Mirai wondered if he could turn a ubiquitous tree field-grown for the live Christmas tree market into a decent bonsai. He has offered the bonsai community a free video showing how he styles one of these easy-to-get trees. The video includes a field trip to show us how to select a good specimen, a lecture on design as it pertains to this particular specimen and its possibilities, a demonstration of pruning, primary wiring and detail wiring. If you like what you see, we can source similar material and try it here.
Our meetings feature presentations by fellow members who have volunteered to teach, inform, entertain and inspire us with a presentation, workshop, demonstration, a guest lecturer/presenter or some other great offering that is bonsai related. We will add more details as they are available, so check back often and save the date.
